Street Action Day – Haughton Road, Birchfield – This Saturday

Come along to join local residents and organisations for a street action day-  this Saturday 26th November from 10.30am to 12.30pm.

We will be meeting at the top of Haughton Road in Birchfield (where Haughton Road meets Westminster Road) at 10.30am.

We will be knocking on doors to meet our neighbours, talking to people about rubbish collection and recycling, local upcoming events, picking litter and reporting any environmental issues we see.

Lozel residents, local environmental and street champions, neighbourhood police, Midland Heart and people from Birmingham City Council Perry Barr constituency will all be coming along.

Come along and say hello!

If you would like to join us, remember your warm clothes and gloves if you have them!

Come along and meet your local councillors at the Lozells and East Handsworth Ward Committee meeting on:

 Wednesday 5th October 2011 at 7.00 p.m.

at Welford Primary School, Welford Road, B20 2BL.

This meeting will be attended by a representative of AMEY, who are responsible for taking care of streets through a contract with Birmingham City Council. There will also be an update from the Neighbourhood Police on tackling local issues, especially ongoing problems that need to be tackled by a range of agencies. There will also be an update on progress with the My Place Young People’s facility in the area.

There has been a lot of talk locally about the use of social media during the recent disturbances in the city. Some have blamed social media, some have praised it for its use in getting quick, up to date information out.

A social media surgery is a chance for our local voluntary and community organisations and active citizens to find out how to use it for themselves.

Good governance lies at the heart of a well run voluntary or community organisation that operates in a responsible, organised way and that best serves the community that it seeks to benefit.

The Birmingham Leadership Foundation, with Anthony Collins solicitors and HW Controls and Assurance are offering a free day of practically based training for those involved in running community or voluntary organisations, or those seriously considering starting one.

Free peer-mentor training for young people around sexual health and healthy relationships

Know Urself CIC is looking for young people interested in training to become a peer educator/mentor, especially around sexual health and healthy relationships.

This is a unique opportunity to gain experience and raise awareness amongst your peers whilst building experience and getting a qualification at the same time. 

We will provide free training, qualification and expenses up to the value of £3.60 per day.

Successful candidates will need to be CRB checked through Know Urself C.I.C, be confident, have good communication skills, be willing to learn, able to work in a team, willingness to work in an confidential environment, passionate about helping within the community and able to commit to the programme from August 2011-July 2012.
