One Planet Grant Scheme

Posted on 19th July 2010 by

The One Planet Living (OPL) Grant scheme is open to schools, community groups and charitable organisations. Applications can be made to local B & Q stores for funding to support a local community project. Projects must meet at least one of the following themes:

  • Environment / Energy Saving
  • Natural Habitats / Wildlife
  • Local Culture / Heritage

The scheme provides £50 to £250 (at retail cost) of B&Q materials, for example, ‘grow your own’ projects, pond liners, plants, peat – free compost for projects such as a pond/wildlife garden or paints labelled low or minimal VOC for redecoration projects. It is important that the project is sustainable. The final result should have a long lasting benefit to the community. OPL grants do not cover maintenance, so the project should be designed for easy care.

To apply for a grant, applicants will need to contact the environmental champion or store manager at their local B&Q store to discuss project details.

Projects can apply for funding between 1 February 2010 and 30 September 2010.  Successful projects must collect their materials no later than 31 October 2010.

Posted on 19th July 2010 by

The Birchfield ‘Be Healthy’ Fun Day held on Saturday 26th June at St. Clare’s  School was a great family day with attendance of over 400 plus local residents.  The weather was fantastic which helped.

There were plenty of sporting activites including West Midlands Police who were offering  Bikeability Level 1 training to celebrate National Bike week.

Other activties included mendhi, face painting, speed cycling, the bicycle fruit smoothie maker and Inspired Coaching multi – sports activities.

Comments from evaluation sheets:

  • Great mix of  families.
  • Event was well organised and thoroughly enjoyed by all participants.
  • Good day, very busy networking and glad for the shade!
